Mold and bacteria have been and are everywhere, and over the recent years, awareness of and health complaints associated with mold and bacteria impacted building materials have soared.  Since the widespread attention to Legionnaires' Disease in 1976 was traced to bacteria in the hotel's air-conditioning system research has focused on government and commercial office buildings.  The recent awareness of the fungi "Stachybotrys" as well as other molds and bacteria, can be a real cause for concern associated with exposure.  Allergic reactions can range widely.

Biological contaminants are a real culprit in poor indoor air quality. Studies show that some of the symptoms people experience from "sick building syndrome" are associated with the growth of fungi and toxic molds.

Mold and bacteria can be found in conditions, which favor their growth, such as:
  • Warm, dark and/or moist places.
  • Dirty or improper operating HVAC systems.

HVAC systems and/or renovations can distribute these contaminants through the building.
